Michael Hussey says his axing from the Australian team's Cricket World Cup was premature and he would be able to overcome a hamstring injury to play in the later stages of the tournament.
Hussey retired from the team Tuesday with the spinner Nathan Haurtiz but said it should have received more than one occasion to prove his fitness.
He cited the example of all-rounder Andrew Symonds who picked up the 2007 World Cup, despite a serious arm injury. Symonds picked up a key role in the team that won the tournament.
"The precedent has been something of a last time with Andrew Symonds," Hussey said Wednesday. "He came in the third or fourth of the previous World Cup and has played an important role in our team, has been an important part of the team.
"I was hoping it would be the same for me really, give me every opportunity to have a crack at it at least. I thought I could push for the second game and certainly the right of the third set."
Hussey option is only part of the Australian countryside in this month's World Cup is if a player is injured.
"I think we probably deserved the opportunity to get a little 'to go, but apparently because otherwise it is a disappointment," he said.
