Cornelius Hester scored 24 points, most of whom come from six three-pointers as Alabama A & M beat Southern University 64-45 on Monday night.
The Bulldogs (12-11, 9-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led 23-19 at halftime, but extended its lead to double digits in a 10-0 run led by Casey Cantey at the beginning of the second half. Cantey scored five of his 18 points during the surge, which ended with Alabama A & M ahead 40-25 with 14:40 left.
The Jaguars (4-23, 3-12) worked the deficit back into single digits, once Marceis 3-pointer with 10:17 left Davis, but Cantey answered with a jumper 41 seconds later. South lost its eighth in a row without anyone scoring in double figures.
Hester took place on 9 and 21 shots, including 6 and 16 3-point territory for the Bulldogs.
