FIFA raises interdict on Islamic headscarves

An interdict on the use of the Islamic headscarf, or hijab, for Muslim women soccer players was lifted by the sport's rule makers on Thursday.

The garment had previously been banned due to safety concerns and because it was not recognized in the laws of the game.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) unanimously overturned the ban and agreed to re-write the laws after studying reports from FIFA's medical officer.

Star Notre Dame wide receiver Jeff Samardzija was expected to be a first-round choice in the 2007 NFL draft.  Samardzija, a two-sport star in college, had previously been drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round in June 2006, raising speculation that he might try to play two sports as a professional.

Australia's Cornthwaite Heads To Korea

Adelaide United defender Robert Cornthwaite series of conferences was the last to be groped his luck in Australia, Korea's football championship leader, hoping to fly out of the Chunnam Dragons.

The 25-year-old was released by Adelaide United FC to allow him to join the team of K-League, but his two-year contract with the club has yet to be finalized and submitted to a medical.

Carlo Mazzone Denies He Will Return To Coach Roma

Former Brescia coach Carlo Mazzone and Naples denied that come out of retirement to take the reins at Roma after Claudio Ranieri has tendered his resignation earlier this evening.

Mazzone also led Giallorossi driver between 1993 and 1996, but has ruled out a return to the bench. He also denied that a player revolt helped Ranieri door Trigoria.
