Bennie Rhodes scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Fresno State won its first home game by beating Vanguard 74-42 Wednesday night.
Garrett Johnson scored 11 points and Tyler Johnson 10 for the Bulldogs (1-1), who enjoyed a 33-0 advantage in fast break points. Cameron Nettles led Vanguard (1-1) with 10 points while Alex Chapman collected 12 rebounds for the NAIA school.
Rhodes has skied for an offensive rebound and putback just before the intermission buzzer to Fresno State before 34 -22. It was the biggest lead the Bulldogs at this time.
Fresno State shot 55.2 percent (32 of 58), compared to 25 percent of Vanguard (16 of 64).
Greg Smith and Ned Golubovic were the only players to turn Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland nine man who saw regular minutes last season. The two big men combined for only six points.
