Cruz Azul Beats Pumas in Mexican Playoffs

Christian Gimenez scored twice as Cruz Azul came from behind to win 2-1 to Pumas UNAM in the first round of playoffs Mexico soccer league on Wednesday.

San Luis and America drew 0-0 in the quarterfinals of the other playoffs. Dante Lopez filed against Cruz Azul, Pumas, on 20 minutes derby Mexico City, but Gimenez equalized with a free long distance shot in 33 and scored the winning goal with a volley at 74.

Cruz Azul has led the division during the regular season and is among the favorites to win the 2010 Apertura title. Other playoff games will be played on Thursday with the host Pachuca Monterrey and Chiapas, Santos visit.

López Cougars took the lead when he received a pass from Martin Bravo on the edge of the area and low shot into the goalkeeper Jesús Corona.
