Trant Simpson made 22 points and Alcorn State defeated Prairie View 68-66 in overtime Tuesday night, Southwestern Athletic Conference opener, both teams.
Alcorn State (0-11) overcame a halftime deficit of five points to send the game into overtime tied at 63.
But the Panthers (40-10), despite shooting only 34.7 percent in the field (25 of 72), scored enough to win the extra period.
Simpson was only between 7 and 20 on the ground, but 4 of 9 in search of 3 points. Brandon Webb added 14 points before fouling out Prairie View won its second straight game.
Marquis Baker led Alcorn State with 19 points and 10 rebounds Kendrick McDonald added 14 points. Braves, who have won just two of their past 42 games dating to last season, though, we tried to do two in a row over Prairie View. They beat the Panthers 69-67 last season.
