Trant Simpson made 22 points and Alcorn State defeated Prairie View 68-66 in overtime Tuesday night, Southwestern Athletic Conference opener, both teams.
Alcorn State (0-11) overcame a halftime deficit of five points to send the game into overtime tied at 63.
But the Panthers (40-10), despite shooting only 34.7 percent in the field (25 of 72), scored enough to win the extra period.
Simpson was only between 7 and 20 on the ground, but 4 of 9 in search of 3 points. Brandon Webb added 14 points before fouling out Prairie View won its second straight game.
