Cricket Australia says Captain Ricky Ponting had surgery on injured finger on Tuesday but is expected to be fit for next month's World Cup in South Asia.
Cricket Australia spokesman said Ponting, missing the fifth Ashes test against England in Sydney, should be cut the little finger of his left hand because it was "just decided that surgery is the best option to go back."
Ponting injured his finger trying to escape capture by winning the Australian pound in the third Ashes test in Perth last month.
He played the fourth round in Melbourne, but does not beat the convenience and excluded from the party of the fifth and last. England has a number of 2-1, making sure the ashes are kept.
