Hawaii Close He Came to Mountain West Football

University of Hawaii is close to joining the Mountain West Conference in football, increasing the prospect of leaving the WAC exhausted after 32 years.

MRC Greenwood School President spoke to the Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson on the phone Thursday and is confident an agreement would be drafted.

"We shook hands, but we do not yet agree on the details," Greenwood said before adding: ". People of the State of Hawaii should be very positive about this, and convinced that we have a bright future

"It is unclear where the rest of the fall sports programs Hawaii Athletic Director Jim Donovan said that his poll of 18 other school teams, 16 of them prefer to play in the Big West.

The Mountain West issued a statement Thursday night saying that the Conference Board authorized the Commissioner Craig Thompson to begin discussions with the University of Hawaii at the possible accession in football alone. "
